Summary / Purpose of Position:
The primary responsibility is to execute the daily tasks and standard operating procedures in the grow/finish unit for production and research needs in a swine facility.  This person will also be responsible for maintaining and providing proper animal care and well-being at all times.

Primary Job Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Perform daily operations of swine production (feeding, heat checking, animal movement, piglet processing, power washing, administering medications and vaccinations, and adjusting feeders as needed).
  • Conduct necessary research measurements as needed for a trial. This includes weighing pigs and feeders, collecting feed samples, record needed trial data, and daily observations of the pigs and environment.
  • Coordinate and perform general repairs and maintenance on facility and equipment
  • Assist other farm employees in completing needed tasks for the day.

Typical Work Environment

  • Majority of work is conducted in an indoor swine confinement environment which includes very dusty, noisy conditions with animals that have unpredictable movements

Minimum Job Qualification Requirements:

Education / Training:

  • High school degree/GED

Relevant Job Experience:

  • 1-2 years professional experience in swine production

Specialized Job / Technical Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of swine production principles and procedures
  • Knowledge of general maintenance techniques
  • Knowledge of general safety principles
  • Knowledge of research and data collection/reporting techniques

Licenses / Certification:

  • None

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more periodically
  • Good body flexibility (much bending and twisting)
  • Ability to withstand jostling by animals
  • Good mobility with ability to move fairly quickly

Safety Requirements:

  • Ear protection in high noise areas
  • Breathing mask in dusty areas
  • Follow all company safety procedures and safety regulations
  • Safety goggles where danger of flying objects is present
